Centra’s campaign aims to promotes healthy living and encourages people to Live Well during Irish Cancer Society Breast Cancer Awareness month. There is strong evidence that people can reduce their risk of cancer by adopting a healthy diet and being active – and those who follow a healthy lifestyle have an estimated 18% lower risk of cancer.

Centra kicked off Breast Cancer Awareness Month by holding the first of its Live Well seminars, hosted by TV presenter Sybil Mulcahy aimed to inspire women with advice on healthy living. The Live Well seminar took place at Dublin’s Dean Hotel with nutrition tips from consultant dietician Sarah Keogh, breast health advice from Irish Cancer Society’s Cancer Nurseline Manager Naomi Fitzgibbon, lifestyle advice from Pippa O’Connor and a personal account by broadcaster Evelyn O’Rourke about her experience with breast cancer.

October 15 events

Centra’s Live Well initiatives in aid of Irish Cancer Society’s ABC programme accumulates on 15th October. Centra’s Live Well seminars will take place in Cork and Galway on the 15th at 10am. On this date, Centra will also be hosting over 200 pink walks across the country encouraging healthy living as well as raising much needed funds. As well as this, Centra customers will be asked if they wish to donate €1 to the cause when they make a purchase in-store on the 15th. Centra has introduced a limited-edition water bottle costing €5, which will be available in-stores nationwide.

With all of these Live Well initiatives taking place this October, Centra are aiming to raise over €300,000 for the Irish Cancer Society’s Action Breast Cancer programme. This is the sixth year Centra has supported the campaign and to date has helped raised over €2.2 million for the charity.

Every year in Ireland over 2,800 people are diagnosed with breast cancer. All funds raised will go directly to the Irish Cancer Society’s essential services including information and support services for people throughout the country who have been affected by breast cancer.

Speaking at the launch, Centra ambassador, Pippa O’Connor said;

“I am delighted to be part of such an important initiative. Breast cancer is the most common form of cancer in females in Ireland, so taking care of my health and reducing my risk is something I am very conscious of. I’m encouraging all to get active and live well this October, and most importantly, get breast aware. Check out your local Centra store to get involved.”

John McCormack, CEO of the Irish Cancer Society commented,

“We are delighted to have the support of Centra employees and customers once again as we prepare to Paint it Pink this October to raise funds to support people affected by breast cancer. Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers for women in Ireland, with over 2,800 cases diagnosed each year. Without the tremendous support of members of the public and companies like Centra we would not be able to provide free supports to help people on their cancer journey. Together we won’t give up until cancer does.”
