It has been a busy time in the Mid-Western Girls Football League with action in three age groups.
Geraghty Travel U14 League
Congratulations also to CP Ajax who captured the Title on Friday last with a convincing 9-2 victory over runners-up Strokestown United. CP Ajax are deserving winners having finished the season with a 100% league record. Aisling Hanley (x 3), Fiona Kilkenny, Niamh Fitzgerald, Holly Heald, Rebecca Keane, Edel Beirne and Lisa O’Rourke were all on target for the winners with Leigh McGinley and Megan Tynan replying for Strokestown.
Annual Mid-Western Girls Football League Cup and Shield Day
The Competitions took place on Saturday 17th September in Dunmore.
Under 12 Competition
In the Under 12 competition there were 8 teams split into 2 groups.
Ballaghaderreen FC topped group 1 with victories over Dunmore Town and Strokestown United and a draw with Castlerea Lions. Strokestown finished as group runners-up thanks to wins over Castlerea Lions and Dunmore Town. Castlerea Lions and Dunmore Town drew 1-1 in the final group game.
In group 2, Kilkerrin United won their three games against CP Ajax, Glen Celtic and Castlerea Tigers. Castlerea Tigers were runners-up with wins over Glen Celtic and CP Ajax. CP Ajax defeated Glen Celtic 2-0 in the final group game. In the Cup semi finals, Castlerea Tigers beat Ballaghaderreen FC while Kilkerrin United overcame Strokestown United after a penalty shootout. Castlerea Tigers won the final 1-0 against Kilkerrin to retain the U12 Cup. In the Shield semi finals, Castlerea Lions defeated Glen Celtic and CP Ajax overcame Dunmore Town. In the final, Castlerea Lions came out on top after a penalty shootout.
Under 10 Competition
In the U10 competition, there were 3 quarter finals which saw Kilkerrin United, CP Ajax & Shiven Rovers advance to join Ballaghaderreen FC in the cup semi finals. Ballaghaderreen defeated CP Ajax 1-0 while Shiven Rovers overcame Klkerrin United on penalties. In the Cup final, Ballaghaderreen FC had a 2-0 win over Shiven Rovers. In the Shield, Glen Celtic Tigers came out on top after a penalty shootout against Castlerea in the semi final and a final victory against Glen Celtic Lions.
Under 14 Competition
In the U14 competition, there were quarter final wins for Kilkerrin United over Dunmore Town and CP Ajax over Shiven Rovers on penalties. The cup semi finals saw Strokestown United overcome Glen Celtic, again on penalties and CP Ajax had a hard-earned 1-0 win over Kilkerrin United. In the final, Strokestown United came out on top following another penalty shootout. In the shield semi-final, Shiven Rovers defeated Dunmore Town to set up a final meeting with Glen Celtic which they won 2-0.
Well done again to all players, coaches, parents, supporters and anybody else involved and congratulations to the successful teams. Thanks to the referees and special thanks to Fergus Boland and all those who ran the Shop, Barbecue and had the venue ready.
