Volkswagen Senior All Ireland Football 7’S Tournament
Clann na nGael travelled to Kilmacud on Saturday to take part in the annual VW 7’s tournament. The pitches were in perfect condition and the tournament was very well organised. We played three games; against Leixlip (Kildare), Corofin (Galway) and St. John’s (Antrim).
The games started off at a quick pace and Clann took a while to adapt to playing 7-a-side.
The second game was a very competitive match against 2015 All-Ireland Club winners Corofin. Both teams were well matched before Corofin went ahead with a late point which Clann could not match, eventually losing out by a single point.
The third game against St. Johns was another competitive game but with two Clann na nGael players picking up injuries in earlier games, the team was stretched and found it hard to cope with the fast pace of play, where rolling substitutes make can make the difference.
Clann na nGael would like to thank Kilmacud Crokes for a well organised tournament and being very welcoming hosts.
The players had the chance to wear their new training kit which support the Irish Kidney Association. To carry a Donor Card, simply freetext “Donor” to 50050.
Junior Update
The Castle Inn sponsored Clann na nGael Junior B team took the long spin to Ballinlough to play round 5 of the Junior Championship on Saturday evening.
Ray Fallon and Padraig Seery had to pull out all the stops to assemble a team for this long journey.
Michael Glavey’s got a dream start with a goal in the first minute and followed that with another in the ninth minute. The score after fifteen minutes was Clann na nGael 0-02 Michael Glavey’s 2-2. Clann na nGael got a goal of their own when Darragh Lennon netted on nineteen minutes. Clann na nGael worked hard in the first half and got the score back to 1-5 to 2-5.
The second half got underway with both sides exchanging points. Cormac Harney continued to push forward drawing frees and Darragh Glynn converted same. Unfortunately, Michael Glaveys scored 7 points to Clann na nGael’s 5 leaving the score Clann na nGael 1-10 to Michael Glavey’s 2-10.
Clann na nGael are still in line to qualify for a semi final place. Well done to all who travelled for this fixture.

Under 16 Update
U.16 Div.1 Championship Semi-Final: Clann na nGael na nGael 7-8 Oran 0-3
On Tuesday evening last in Johnstown, Clann na nGael U-16’s qualified to meet neighbours St. Brigids in this year’s Div 1 U-16 Championship final with a win over Oran.
When the teams played each other earlier in the championship in Oran, Clann na nGael were relived to run out winners by 4 points. However on Tues evening last the lads were into their stride from early in the game and never allowed a gallant Oran team to settle at any stage. Clann na nGael dominated both halves and while the Oran lads tried their best they never looked like getting the necessary scores to launch a comeback.
The team will now meet St. Brigid’s in the county final. The lads from Kiltoom/Cam/Curraghboy ran out winners when the teams clashed earlier in the group stages of the Championship and will enter the final as favourites but the Clann na nGael lads will be making every attempt to reverse the previous Championship result.

Under 12 Updates
Clann na nGael took up an invitation to the U.12 Gowna tournament on Saturday. The long trip proved to be ultimately unsuccessful, as they failed to qualify for the knockout stages. An uncharacteristically flat Clann na nGael, lost their first two matches narrowly and despite recording a comprehensive victory in the third group game it was not enough to progress.
A very worthwhile exercise all the same. The best lessons can be learned from defeat and it was another opportunity to play teams from different counties and for further team bonding. A quick team meal on the way home lifted spirits.
