We look back on the weekend’s action from the Roscommon Sports scene and beyond, including Gaelic Games, Soccer, Rugby, Cycling and Camogie.
Handball
It was a great weekend for underage Handball with Roscommon claiming six titles at the Connacht 60×30 Finals. Unfortunately it wasn’t a good weekend for the Adult Doubles in action. Read Aengus Cunningham’s report here.
GAA
A Four Roads goal with the last shot of the game (via a “65”) saw them force a replay in the Kepak Senior Hurling Championship Semi-Final. Catch up on all the results here.
The Replay was scheduled for October 1st but that is subject to change now due to the All-Ireland Senior Football Final Replay.
In other news it is believed that both Kevin McStay and Nigel Dineen were both nominated for the Roscommon Senior Football Team Managers position. The deadline for nominations is this Wednesday.
Soccer
Ballymoe FC sit on top of the pile in the Roscommon and District Football League. Vincent Brooks rounded-up the action here.
Ladies Gaelic Football
Kilbride took the Senior Title with a 6-9 to 2-9 win over St. Brigids. Padraig Pearses will be back in the Senior Championship next year after defeating Western Gaels by 2-11 to 1-6 in the Intermediate Championship. Michael Glaveys defeated St. Faithleachs by 4-4 to 2-9 in the Junior A decider and will play Intermediate Football next year. St. Dominics won the County Junior B title with a comfortable 6-21 to 1-4 win over Kilmore.
Rugby
Buccaneers RFC, featuring a number of Roscommon players, began their Ulster Bank League campaign with a loss.
It wasn’t a good weekend for Connacht as their game was abandoned due to a Thunder and Lightening storm. The game has been refixed for 5 weeks time.
Cycling
Daire Feeley finished 106th in the Under 23 Road Race at the European Championships in France. He suffered a mechanical fault for the first five laps and then had to switch bike in order to complete the race.
Camogie
Four Roads, Roscommon Gaels Hawks, Athleague and Roscommon Gaels Eagles won the various Under 12 Finals held over the weekend
