Roscommon Farmers are paying below the national average for Agricultural Diesel and Kerosene according to the IFA’s quarterly fuel price survey, published earlier.
IFA’s Inputs Project Team Chairman John Coughlan has reported broadly unchanged fuel prices in the most recent quarterly survey published by Association. The results show agricultural diesel now costs on average 60.50 cent per litre, car diesel 112.87 cent per litre and kerosene 55.8 cent per litre.
Roscommon Farmers pay 58.63c per litre for Agricultural Diesel (down from 62c in the last survey); below the National Average of 60.50c. For normal Diesel they pay 113.45c per litre (down from 113.67c in the last survey); is above the National Average of 112.87c. For Kerosene (Home Heating Oil) they pay 54.6c per litre (down from 55.94c per litre in the previous survey) which is slightly below the National Average of 55.8c per litre.
“Considerable variations”
The survey results highlight considerable variations in fuel prices throughout the country, with farmers in county Limerick paying 108.9 cent per litre for car diesel, while farmers in Leitrim pay over 120 cent per litre.
The least expensive Agricultural Diesel can be found in Carlow and Kildare at 55.62c per litre with the most expensive being found in Leitrim at 74.9c per litre.
The least expensive Kerosene (Home Heating Oil) can be found in Cavan at 51c per litre with the most expensive being found in Limerick at 61.9c per litre.
John Coughlan said, “The recurring trend that fuel suppliers in counties such as Longford, Sligo, Waterford and Leitrim are charging farmers significantly more for fuel than in many other parts of the country is something farmers must challenge when buying fuel.”
He added, “Farmers who are members of purchasing groups or pay on the day are also reporting discounts of over 10% on the cost of fuel. This is something farmers should consider when buying fuel. It is important to shop around and negotiate the most competitive fuel prices possible.”
