Organisers of the Kepak All-Ireland Sheep Shearing and Wool Handling Championships will be distributing free tickets to the event to primary school children throughout the area, it has been confirmed.
The tickets, which will be delivered to schools this week, admit a child under the age of 12 free to the event when they are accompanied by a full paying adult. The All-Ireland Sheep Shearing Championships and the All-Nations equivalent take place at St. Brigid’s GAA Club, Kiltoom, from 2nd-4th June.
Chairman of the organising committee Tomás Beades explained:
“We are very excited at the line up we have put together for this weekend. As well as world class shearing we also have a host of other events taking place with something for all the family.
“The local community has been fantastic and we have received unparalleled support in our efforts to stage this event. It is because of this that we wanted to give something back to the community and we decided to offer free entry to children under 12 through the local primary schools.”
The weekend promises to be a spectacle not to be missed with over 200 competitors shearing 2,200 sheep across 19 different categories in two days of intense, international competition. Large numbers of spectators are expected to flock to the venue and, in addition to the sheep shearing competitions, there will be a range of other attractions including nightly entertainment in a fully-licensed bar, children’s activities, arts and crafts, artisan food, heritage features, sheep shows, sheep dog trials, trade stands, cookery demonstrations and a food quarter.
Children’s entertainment includes pony rides, face painting and amusements while there will also be sheep racing, vintage displays and fashions shows. If your school would like tickets to the event then organisers can be contacted by email at [email protected]
