The Roscommon Ladies Under 16 Football Team, sponsored by Kildea Concrete, James Irwin Construction, XLnt signs and Fleming’s Supervalu qualified for the Connacht “A” Final thanks to a 10 point win over Sligo.
Played at St Croans GAA Grounds last Friday the 3-10 to 1-06 win sets them up for a tilt at the A title against Galway this Friday at a venue and time to be confirmed. This is a remarkable achievement from this squad. Indeed for Roscommon to have both the U16’s and the Minor’s qualify for Connacht “A” Finals is truly a superb achievement and shows the progress that is being made at county level. Well done to all involved.
The Roscommon girls really got the job done in the first half playing with the aid of a stiff breeze the raced into a lead and goaled twice in the opening 15 minutes. A further goal before the break left them in an unassailable half time lead of 3-07 to 0-02. The second half was not as good an affair but with both sides ringing the changes it was bound to get scrappy. Final score Roscommon 3-10 Sligo 1-6.
Roscommon will be a little disappointed with the overall second half performance but will still be pleased with some aspects of it. Indeed will take a lot of positives out of the game going forward to Friday’s Final.

U14 Update
The U14’s continued their development when the played in the national U14 Blitz on Saturday last in Rathleague Portlaoise. They girls put in sterling performances losing firstly to a strong Wexford outfit before beating Down and then losing out narrowly to neighbours Westmeath, but most importantly everyone had a terrific fun day out as they continue to show massive signs of improvement as the future looks bright for this talented squad. A big thank you to the management squad and the parents who looked after the girls for the day. Training and other blitz’s and challenge games will continue for this squad as they mould into both the U13 and U15 development squads.
Minor update
The minors season takes a break for a while now as the Leaving Cert takes precedence at this time of the year, but training will continue for the squad during this period where their thoughts will be firmly focussed on their upcoming All-Ireland “B” qualifier against Sligo which takes place on July 8th.
