Ballymoe FC celebrate title win

Roscommon Sport Ballymoe FC Roscommon and District Football League

What an incredible final day in the Premier League as Ballymoe FC snatch the title from rivals Castlerea in dramatic fashion. Going into the final fixture against Moore Utd. Ballymoe knew that their destiny wasn’t in their own hands as a win for Castlerea would ensure they were champions. All that Ballymoe could affect was getting 3 points against a Moore side who had challenged near the top of the table all season. This they did as a fine strike from Maurice Connaughton in the first half gave the keeper no chance. Meanwhile in Castlerea the home side took the lead early in the second half and were looking like retaining the title. But two late goals from Ballinasloe to turn that game around filtered around the pitch in Ballymoe meaning the home team knew that if they hung on to the 1-nil lead then Ballymoe would have their first Premier League title. Eventually the final whistle went and Ballymoe had done it. Champions!

This is an incredibly proud moment for everyone involved in the club. From the committee who have worked tirelessly to produce the fantastic facilities we now have in place, to the supporters who have continuously backed the club and to the players who have made a commitment this season to push for the league title. A special thanks to the management team of Kevin Earley and Sean Collins who were also assisted by Kevin Morgan. The work that they have put in this season has been incredible and thankfully they now have the reward.

There is still the possibility of more silverware in the two cup competitions but for now everybody can enjoy the fact that Ballymoe FC are the 2016/17 Premier League Champions.
