Four Roscommon Handball pairs are in All-Ireland 40×20 Semi-Final action with three confirmed to be in action this weekend.
Siobhan Tully and Linda Connolly won the Connacht Ladies 40×20 Junior ‘B’ Doubles title recently with a good win over Sligo’s Aoife Quinn and Laura Keever.
Held in the picturesque Mayo village of Aughagower, the left-right combination from St. Coman’s had to work very hard in the first before scraping a 21-19 win. The second was much more clear cut and the Roscommon pair took it far more comfortably 21-9.
There is still no confirmation who the girls next opponents will be as there is an unresolved objection within Leinster at the time of publication.
Elsewhere Roscommon are involved in three other All-Ireland semi-finals this weekend. Curraghboy’s Golden Masters Ger Walshe and Cormac O’Brien have a tough proposition against Westmeath’s ageless Robbie McCarthy Snr. and Mike Naughton, which will be held in St. Coman’s at 7pm on Friday.
Their club-mates Philip O’Connor and Paul Kelly are strong contenders in the Over 35 ‘B’ doubles against Kilkenny’s John Morrisey and Noel Doherty but will have to travel to O’Loughlins in Kilkenny on Sunday.
The very strong Ladies Intermediate partnership of Fiona Tully and Lauren O’Riordan should have too much for Laois’s Niamh Dunne and Ciara Dowling in Monavea, Co. Laois on Friday.
