The Roscommon Minor Camogie team made it three from three with an impressive win over Tyrone in Round 3 of the All-Ireland C Championship yesterday (Sunday).
Roscommon took to the field with more than a strong breeze at their backs and having already qualified for the All-Ireland Final on April 8th John Benton had the opportunity to make considerable changes from his line-outs in previous games.
Tyrones full forward Catherine Muldoon and corner forward Regan Fay traded a goal and point early on with Roscommon’s Nora Brennan and Shauna Fallon. The home team then moved up a gear scoring a further goal and seven points before Amy Barrett raised another green flag for Tyrone. Roscommon responded emphatically with a goal from Julie Healy and eased further ahead closing the half on a scoreline of 3-12 to 2-1.
Although the result never looked in doubt Tyrone to their credit made a superb effort in the second half with Roisin McErlane, Niamh Forker and Regan Fay taking some fine scores. Roscommon introduced five substitutes and Maria Lohan, Sarah Carty, Julie Healy and Grainne White kept the scoreboard ticking over with the home side the victors at the final whistle by 4-18 to 3-10.
Lots done but lots more to do on the training ground as Roscommon will find Carlow formidable opponents in two weeks time. A tough and tight encounter is in prospect but John Benton and his team will give their all in pursuit of All-Ireland glory.
