Two tries from Captain Max King helped Abbey Community College, Boyle claim the Top Oil Connacht Schools Junior Emerging Cup with a 24-18 win over St Joseph’s Foxford.
It was a keenly contested game throughout it was Boyle lock Kyle Cosgrove who got the opener when he crossed the line in the 20th minute. Josh Cronin’s conversion attempt drifted narrowly wide. Foxford flanker Jason Doherty equalised shortly after but out-half Adam Naughton failed to put over the conversion, which was a difficult angle.
Foxford started the second half well and a Caolan Hopkins try put them 10-5 ahead but the lead was short lived. Boyle’s Adam O’Connor finished off a well worked move which Josh Cronin converted to make it 12-10. Then it was Foxford’s turn to hold the lead with Caolan Hopkins touching down for his second try.
With 10 minutes remaining Abbey Community College Captain Max King scored a try to put his side 17-15 ahead. Boyle conceded a late penalty, which was knocked over Adam Naughton to leave it Foxford 18 Abbey Community College 17. All was not lost and with moments remaining Max King kicked the ball through the St Joseph’s defence and won the race to touch down the ball. Kyle Cosgrove converted and Boyle had done it – Abbey Community College had clinched the Top Oil Connacht Schools Junior Emerging Cup
