A number of local footballers were in action in the Higher Education GAA Sigerson Cup during the week. We look back on how they fared.
In Round One of the Sigerson Cup Kilbride’s Henry Walsh scored three Frees for Maynooth University in their 4-15 to 3-19 extra-time defeat to the University of Limerick on Wednesday.
Shane Mannion (St Brigids), Shehroz Akram (Ballaghadereen) and substitute Enda Smith (Boyle) played in DCU’s comfortable 3-10 to 0-3 win over Queen’s University Belfast. Ultan Harney (Clann na nGael) and David Neary (Strokestown) are also members of the squad.

In the preliminary round Shane O’Malley (Michael Glaveys), Graham Petit (Clann na nGael), Tom Featherstone (Oran),Caoileann Fitzmaurice (Michael Glaveys) Gearoid Ennis (Fuerty) all played for the Garda College in their 0-8 to 0-3 win over Cork IT in a windy Templemore yesterday.
IT Sligo defeated GMIT by 3-13 to 2-7. Fuerty’s Philip Neilan is a member of the IT Sligo squad while, Liam Creaton (Éire Óg) and Evan McGrath (Boyle) are members of the GMIT panel.
NUI Galway defeated Trinity College by 4-12 to 1-7. John Donoghue (Kilmore) and Kevin Finn (Strokestown) are members of the NUI Galway panel. Keelan Beirne from Strokestown is a member of the Trinity squad.
