Vincent Brooks rounds-up the action from the Roscommon and District Football League which saw a new leader in the Premier Division and the Division One leaders extending the gap.
In the Herald sponsored Roscommon and District Football League Premier Division Ballymoe FC suffered their first League defeat of the season. They were beaten 2 – 0 at home by Ballinasloe Town. Going into this game Ballymoe won ten games in a row and for long periods of this game the sides were well matched. Five minutes into the second half David Grehan broke the deadlock and the same player added a second ten minutes later. Ballinasloe are eight points behind the leaders but with two games in hand.
Moore United are the new leaders of the Premier Division following a 1 – 0 win over Skyvalley Rovers at Taughmaconnell. They are a point ahead of Ballymoe but with a game more played. The title contenders were far from impressive but they will be happy to get all three points. The only score of the game came after fifty four minutes when a harmless looking cross from Mark Duignan was sliced to the home sides net by a defender.
Title holders Castlerea Celtic were made to battle all the way before beating Ballaghaderreen 2 – 1 on their home ground. Lee Keenan gave Ballaghaderreen a 1 – 0 lead after twenty four minutes and David Fitzpatrick levelled the scoring with thirty eight played. Ronan Curran converted a penalty kick with fifteen left to play and they held out for a win. They are seven points behind the leaders but with two games in hand.
St Johns Athletic kept their hopes of avoiding relegation alive when they beat the Brazilian side Brazukas 2 – 0 at Roscommon. Ryan O Beirne scored for the Lecarrow side after fifteen minutes. A fine solo goal by Tommie Hurley aftr fifty six minutes of play sealed the win for St Johns Athletic.
Shiven Rovers all but sealed their place in the Premier Division when they beat Ahascragh United 2 – 0 at Newbridge. Francis Kilcommins converted a penalty kick with fifteen played and Premier Division leading goal scorer Eric Walsh added a second in the second half
In the Norios Takeaway sponsored Roscommon and District Football League Division One Dysart all but sealed the title when they beat nearest contenders Cloonfad United 3 – 2 away at Cloonfad.
It was the thirteenth straight League win for Dysart and they are now nine points clear at the top of the points table with six games left to play.
Dysart were the better side in the first half and Darragh Keegan gave them a 1- 0 lead three minutes before half time. Conor Freely converted a penalty kick with fifty seven played to level the game. The turning point of the game came three minutes later when Cloonfad United missed from the penalty spot. Keith Waldrom and John Coyne soon had Dysart two up with Kieran Kiely pulling a goal back for Cloonfad United near the end.
Third placed C P Ajax were surprisingly beaten 2 – 1 away to lowly Ballinasloe Town. Wayne Coyne scored two for the winners and Mike Kerrane scored for the losers.
Lough Harps moved into third place six points behind Cloonfad following their 4 – 1 win over Glen Celtic at Ballinlough. With Adrian Cregg in top form the winners scored two in each half. Sean Moran and David Freyne in the first half and Adrian Cregg and Sean Burke scored their goals. Simon Stachurski replied for the Glenamaddy side.
Dunmore are level with Lough Harps following a 6 – 0 win over Rahara Rovers. Ger Canny scored two and Peter Mc Daid Brendan Mc Grath Brian Higgins and Conor Gleeson added one each.
Kilkerrin United beat Loughglynn United 3 – 1 at Loughglynn. Declan Murphy volleyed Kilkerrin ahead with twenty played and Sean Collins and John Miskell added two more before Rhys Keenan scored for the losers.
In the Kileen Sportsgrounds sponsored Roscommon and District Football League Division 2 Castlerea Celtic beat Cloonfad United 2 – 0 at Castlerea.
Rui Filipe in the first half and Gareth McElhone in the second scored the goals.
Roscommon United beat Ballinagare 6 – 2 at Ballinagare. The Divisions leading goal scorer Jamie Bracken scored three and Karl Garvin added two more and Paul McHugh one for an impressive Town side. Liam Kelly and Tom Ward scored for the losers.
Moylough 79 drew 1 – 1 with Dunmore Town. Danny Farragher gave Dunmore lead but Kieran Kelly scored for Moylough in the second half.
Moore United had a walk over Hodson Bay Athletic.
