Under 20 Championship Final
Johnstown was in great condition only a week before Christmas for the Under 20 Championship Final between Clann and St. Brigid’s on a bright Sunday morning last.
The game was very even in the first half with scores being matched by both teams, neither team having more than a two point lead at any point in the first half. Both teams were very strong in midfield, with Cathal Callinan putting on an exhibition of point taking with a string of fine scores.

The second half saw St. Brigid’s start to take control of the game with some great catching and cleaning up of loose balls which put the Clann defence under huge pressure. Things looked to be beyond Clann’s reach early in the second half when St. Brigid’s grabbed a deserved goal and soon after stretched their lead to 4 points.
But Clann weren’t ready to give up and put the shoulder to the wheel to pick up a number of pointed frees before a great run by David Connaughton opened up a scoring chance for Jamie Fahy who slotted into the net to bring the game level yet again at 1-10 a piece.

The game looked to be going to extra time with nothing between the teams before Cathal Callinan converted yet another free kick to extend his tally and Clann held on to the final whistle with the final score 1-13 to 1-12.
Well done to both Clann and St. Brigid’s on what was one of the most enthralling finals we’ve seen in a long time and sure to be remembered for years to come.

Congratulations to Joe Fallon, his backroom team and the squad of players for their achievement.
