A round-up on the results from the Roscommon Sport scene for the weekend so far, including Gaelic Football, Soccer and Rugby.

Gaelic Games

There was mixed fortunes for the Roscommon players in inter-provincial action. Points from Fintan Cregg, Niall Daly, Enda Smith & 1-1 from Ciarain Murtagh helped the Connacht Footballers defeat Leinster by 2-17 to 1-18 .

Jason Kilkenny and Cathal Dolan were second half substitutes as the Connacht Hurlers were defeated by Leinster on a scoreline of 1-14 to 1-12 in their Semi-Final in Nenagh.

Closer to home Boyle defeated Kilmore-Shannon Gaels by 3-17 to 4-8 in the Garda Cup (Under 14) Football Final.

Rugby

A last minute score saw the Connacht Eagles, featuring Roscommon’s Danny Qualter and Luke Carty suffer a 17 – 20 defeat by Ospreys Select in the Sportsgrounds.

Despite being without all their Connacht players, Buccaneers RFC proved much too strong for Sligo when the sides met in the semi-final of the Connacht Senior Cup under the Dubarry Park floodlights on Friday night when the Athlone club romped to a facile 93-5 victory. Roscommon’s Shane Layden score two of Buccs’ tries.

The Connacht Ladies, featuring Clare Raftery from Castlerea, suffered a 8-12 defeat to Munster in their Inter-provincial Series game.

Former President of the Connacht Branch IRFU and Creggs RFC Dr Joe Daly, from Ballygar, passed away.
May he rest in peace.

Due to the untimely death of Katie Ryan, Ballinagare and Ballaghaderreen, both the Ballaghaderreen FC V Castlerea & Ballinagare FC V Cloonfad United games scheduled for tomorrow have both been postponed as a mark of respect. May she rest in peace.

Camogie

Congratulations to Geraldine Beattie Greene who received the Connacht Camogie Administrator of the Year Award and Joanne Beattie who received the Connacht Junior Camogie Player Award at a ceremony in the Connacht GAA Centre on Friday night.
