The man who died after being knocked down by a car near Frenchpark yesterday evening has been named locally as Mickey O’Gara from Portahard, Frenchpark.
The incident occurred approximately 500m from Mr O’Gara’s home.

A man, believed to be in his 70s, has died after being knocked down by a car near Frenchpark. The incident occurred at 5:15pm, approximately one mile from the village, on the Ballaghaderreen side. Gardai in Castlerea, who are investigating the incident, said the man was pronounced dead at the scene. They have appealed to anyone who may have passed the area between 5 and 6pm to contact Castlerea Garda Station on 094 9621630.
The N5 has re-opened following an examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators.
