Senator Maura Hopkins has welcomed the news that Roscommon County Council has allocated €500,000 to “An Chistin” – the proposed Food Hub in Castlerea stating that it is “excellent news for the town”.
Commenting on the news Senator Maura Hopkins said “It is very important now to ensure every effort is made to make this project a success. We must get the equipment installed, the facility up and running with individuals and businesses using it to develop or enhance their food product.”
“This project is very positive for Castlerea and surrounding towns as it will help to support people developing food products and businesses. People using the facility will be able to use the kitchen equipment and avail of training and support in their new ventures. The objective of this project is to support the creation of new or enhanced food products, adding value to existing products and helping individuals to establish food businesses and create jobs”.
“The government has made funding available to councils to enable them to support projects such as ‘An Chistin’. This is a direct indication of the government’s objective to help boost the economy in rural areas. It is also really encouraging that Roscommon County Council and Roscommon LEADER Partnership have been working very hard in developing and supporting these type of projects”.
Senator Hopkins concluded by saying “I am absolutely delighted that this funding has been allocated and I will continue to work with the community in Castlerea to ensure this project is very successful”.
