Senator Frank Feighan has welcomed the comprehensive response from Minister for Health, Simon Harris, to the wide-ranging issues raised at a recent meeting with the Hospital Action Committee (HAC) and local Oireachtas public representatives.
Commenting on the correspondence Senator Frank Feighan said “On September 29th last, I facilitated a meeting in Dublin between the Minister for Health and members of the HAC along with local Oireachtas public representatives. Minister Harris engaged with those present on a range of issues relating to the hospital and local health services and, as promised, he has provided a very comprehensive reply to a range of issues.
“I am particularly delighted to receive confirmation that the project team is currently being assembled for the Medical Rehabilitation Unit development, which was given the green light by the Minister during his visit to Roscommon in September.
“There are also other very welcome developments such as plans to upgrade and extend theatre capacity; provide a new ward block and develop a dedicated Central Sterile Services Department (CSSD) unit.
The letter also noted that:
– There has been no change to the schedule of visiting consultants or no loss of service during the past year.
– There has been an expansion of the Galway/Roscommon Community Intervention Team which should assist in the provision of homecare packages
– The upgrade of the Sacred Heart Hospital is at “Appraisal Stage” – the first stage of the process.
“It’s very clear that Roscommon Hospital is going from strength to strength and continues to be a shining light for all other small hospitals around the country” concluded Senator Feighan.
