Four Roads dominance of Roscommon Senior Hurling Championship came to an end this afternoon when Jerry Fallon led Oran to the title in dramatic fashion.
Four Roads looked to be on their way to a ninth title in a row and led by 0-11 to 0-10 in the last minute of injury time. Then Oran were awarded a free on their own “45”. Back came Jerry Fallon, the former All-Ireland Poc Fada Champion, and he sent the sliotar straight over the bar and the game to Extra Time.
Despite being the second final that went to Extra Time in the space of a week for a large number of the Oran players they got new life after the restart. Goals from Thomas Fetherston and Man of the Match Jerry Fallon helped to give them a 2-12 to 0-11 lead over Four Roads at Half-Time in Extra Time. On the resumption Oran extended their lead with another two points before Johnni Coyne scored 1-1 in quick succession for the reigning champions. Tremendous Oran defending put an end to the fightback and Oran took the title on a scoreline of 2-15 to 1-12.
Scorers:
Oran: Jerry Fallon 1-9, Thomas Fetherston 1-1, Cathal Kenny 0-2, Michael Dwyer, Enda Morris, Colm Mahon 0-1 each.
