Vincent Brooks looks back on the weekend’s action in the Roscommon and District Football League and FAI Junior Cup over the weekend.

Roscommon and District Football League Premier Division side Castlerea Celtic are through to Round four of the FAI Junior Cup when they beat Division 1 side C P Ajax 6 – 0 at Tarmon. Peter Farrell and James Joyce scored two each and Jarlath Geraghty and Jack Higgins one each for the winners.

Shiven Rovers beat Sligo Super League side St Johns 4 – 2 at Shiven. Eric Walsh scored two and Philip Heavey and Francis Kilcommins one each in an impressive win for the Newbridge side

Ballinasloe Town ended Ballymoe F C run of wins when the beat them 2 – 1 at Ballymoe to advance to round four. Peter Keighery and Ger Canavan scored for Ballinasloe with John Connaughton pulling a goal back near the end for Ballymoe.

Division 1 side Cloonfad United were beaten 2 – 1 away to former Roscommon and District league side Boyle Celtic. Aaron Calpin gave the Sligo Super League side a 1 – 0 lead after twenty two minutes. John Noone replied for Cloonfad United within a minute. Just before half time Mike Corrigan restored the Boyle lead and while Conor Freeley saw a shot rebound off the goal post Boyle held on for a win.

Moore United moved into second place in the Premier Division of the Roscommon and District Football League when they beat Ahascragh United 6 – 0 at Falty Park Moore.

The home side got off to the perfect start when an Ahascragh player handled the ball and Darragh Concannon converted the penalty kick. Kevin Brennan added a second to give Moore a 2 – 0 lead at the break. David Harrington headed their third before Darragh Concannon added his second with a free kick. In the closing stages Shane Mulvey and Alan Duffy added two more for the winners.

Ballaghaderreen moved into fourth place thanks to a 4 – 0 win over Skyvalley Rovers at Ballaghaderreen. The game was much closer than the scoreline suggests and only in the closing minutes did the home side get on top. Playing with the wind in the first half the winners took the lead through Lee Keenan in the first half. With sixty five played Keenan added his second and near the end of the game Gerry Ward and Lee Keenan added two more.

The Brazilian side Brazukas beat St Johns Athletic 4 – 0 at Lecarrow. Marchello scored two and Marcos and Vando one each for the winners.

In the Norios Takeaway sponsored Roscommon and District Football League Division 1 Dysart took full advantage of nearest challengers Cloonfad United being otherwise.

They beat third placed Dunmore Town 3 – 2 at Dysart and are three points clear at the top. Dunmore were a goal up within a minute of the start thanks to Conor Gleeson. Keith Waldron levelled the game with twenty four played and John Coyne added a second with thirty played. Dunmore levelled the game before half time thanks to John Donnellan but John Coyne won the points for Dysart with a goal five minutes from full time.

Loughglynn United and Lough Harps drew 1 – 1 at at Loughglynn. Shane Jordan gave the home side a half time lead and Sean Burke replied for the Ballinlough side with ten minutes left to play.

Ballinasloe Town had their first win of the season when they beat Glen Celtic 3 – 1 at Ballinasloe. Ryan Mc Hugh scored for the Glenamaddy side.

Rahara Rovers beat Kilkerrin United 3 – 2 at Rahara. Cillian Halvey gave Kilkerrin an early Lead. Paul Flaherty scored two for Rahara before an own gaol levelled the game. With time running out Seam Commane scored the winner for Rahara.

In the Kileen Sportsgrounds sponsored Division 2 of the Roscommon and District Football League leaders Strokestown United beat Cloonfad United 2 – 1 at Cloonfad.

Darren Clabby and Paddy O’Connor scored their goals. James Mc Donagh replied for the losers.

Roscommon United beat Ballinagare 8 – 3 at Roscommon. Karl Garvin scored five Enda Lannon two and Jamie Bracken one for the winners. James Dowd scored two and Ryan Higgins one for the losers.

Joint third placed Moore United drew 1 – 1 away to Hodson Bay Athletic. Darragh Pettit finished off a Tom Naughton move to give Moore a 1 – 0 lead after thirty six minutes of play. Declan O Connor got an equaliser for the Kiltoom side with sixty five played. Moore nearly snatched a win with the last kick of the game but the ball came back off the post.

Castlerea Celtic are on the same number of points as Moore United after beating Skyvalley Rovers 5 – 0 at Castlerea. Thomas Byron scored three and Mikey Doherty and Oisin Ward added one each.

Cam Celtic drew 0 – 0 at home to the Newbridge side Shiven Rovers.

Moylough beat Dunmore 3 – 1 at Dunmore. Marcus Finn in the First half and Michael Kelly and Alan Conway in the second half scored for the winners with Paul Ridge replying for the losers.
