Councillor Domnick Connolly has extended his congratulations to the people of Lanesboro and Ballyleague on securing the hosting of the World Predator Boat Fishing Championships next month.

Councillor Connolly said “Up to 10,000 people are expected to attend and it is a huge undertaking by the local angling hub to organise it. But they have an excellent committee in place and there are very impressive plans in place for the festival weekend and it is certain to be a huge success.”
In conjunction with the Championships the Lough Ree Angling Hub has set up a new sub committee to stage a two day International food festival. The ‘Taste of the Lakelands‘ food festival is supported by Failte Ireland (Lakelands Tourism), Longford and Roscommon County Enterprise Boards, Waterways Ireland, Supervalu and will attract visitors from all over the country and abroad over the two days
Domnick Connolly said the festival “will afford local food companies to showcase their products, and with national and international TV coverage guaranteed this is an excellent idea and it will most likely become an annual event. This is the type of community effort that deserves to be supported and I know that the whole weekend will be full of great entertainment and hopefully the thousands of visitors who come to the area will return year after year” he concluded.
