Plans are well advanced for the second running of the Darren McGlynn Memorial Tractor Run, which takes place on Sunday next, September 25th.
The event takes place from the McGlynn home in Cloonfour, located mid way between Tarmonbarry and Rooskey. It is open to both vintage and modern tractors.
The Route
Tractors will travel in convoy along the following route: Clonfour to Tarmonbarry, Strokestown via Scramogue, then to Rooskey, returning to Cloonfour. In Cloonfour a Tug-of-war competition involving local teams and the Monster Prize Draw will take place. Tea and refreshments will also be served.
Good causes to benefit
This is the second running of the Darren McGlynn Memorial Tractor Run. Last year, the event was run in conjunction with the MARK’S WISH TO WALK fund. The event raised over €18,000 to help 3 year old Mark Dolan travel to the USA for surgery and treatment to help him to walk. While originally planned as a once off event, last year was such a success that the committee and local community decided to run it again in 2016. This year the proceeds are going to two charities working in the local area; County Longford Scuba Divers/Search and Rescue, and Pieta House West.
“The Tractor Run was a really great day last year” said Committee Secretary Claire McGlynn. “We had over 230 tractors on the Run and were really overwhelmed with all of the help and support we got from the whole community. We’re working hard now getting things organised, but we have a great team of stewards, caterers, and helpers of all sorts, so we are getting excited now as the Tractor Run gets close”.
Admission to the Tractor Run is €20 per tractor. As is usual for these events, the normal rules of the road will apply, and all tractors taking part will need to be roadworthy and insured.
