The launch was performed by Roscommon Rose of Tralee Aisling McNeill, and in attendance were representatives from Mayo Roscommon Hospice, Roscommon Palliative Care Services, “The Rockin’ Rossies”, who will play at the fundraiser and Larry O’Gara who will host the event at Jack’s Live Venue. The launch was also attended by Minister for Communications Denis Naughten TD, Eugene Murphy TD, and Councillor Domnick Connolly.
Speaking at the launch Mary McDermott of Roscommon Palliative Care Services
said that the numbers using their services are rising all the time and resources were not keeping pace with that extra demand and that fundraisers like this one were vital to the survival of the service.
Laurita Blewitt of the Roscommon/Mayo Hospice
told the launch that plans are well advanced for a residential Hospice Unit in Castlebar costing €9 million and that plans are also well advanced for an 8 bed unit in the grounds of Roscommon Hospital. She explained that the 10 Hospice shops in both counties are supporting the organisation’s administration costs and that 100% of the monies raised by this fund-raiser would go directly into services.
The fund-raiser takes place on Friday October 14th and will feature live music from local band “The Rockin’ Rossies” and with special guest Avril Gilligan. It will be followed with a 70’s and 80’s Disco to complete the night. Tickets are on sale from the following outlets: “8 Til’Late” the Square; P Kelly’s Bar, Castle Street; and directly from Seamus Duke.
