A man was seriously injured and four other people were taken to hospital following a two car crash in Brideswell in the early hours of this morning.

The collision occurred on the R363 Brideswell to Athlone Road, 1.5 Kilometres east of the village at approximately 4am. A 23-year-old man, who was the sole occupant of one car, was seriously injured and taken to Tullamore Hospital.
The occupants of the second car, two adults and two young children, were taken to Portiuncla Hospital in Ballinasloe for treatment. Gardaí said their medical condition is unknown at this stage.
The road has been closed to facilitate an examination and will remain closed until lunchtime with local diversions in place.
