St Barrys 1-11 Shannon Gaels 2-10/

In spite of an improved second half performance, St Barry’s Adult Mens team lost out in a hard fought Intermediate Championship clash to Shannon Gaels in Boyle this evening. The game started evenly, with the teams exchanging scores, but Barry’s suffered a sucker punch when they conceded a poor goal after seven minutes. Shannon Gaels built on the goal, and St Barry’s struggled throughout the field, trailing by 10 points at halftime. However, the lads upped their performance in the second half, and were given a boost when Alan Callaghan rounded off a good move to the net. With Guildford and Callaghan providing an improved presence presence in the full forward line, Shannon Gaels were reduced to persistent fouling, which was consistently punished by McGowan and Mitchell frees. Going into injury time, we trailed by a point, and all looked set for a grandstand finish. However, the referee had other ideas, awarding the softest of frees to the Shannon Gaels full forward, and blowing full time as soon as the free was scored.
TEAM: Tadgh Devlin, Barry Brennan, Aaron Murtagh, Shane Carrington, James Bennett, Sean Gannon, Raymond Rogers(0-1), Ciaran Garraghan(0-1), Ronan Mitchell(0-5,frees), Trevor Murtagh(0-1), John Murtagh, Declan Cox, Alan Callaghan(1-0), Finbar McGowan (0-2,frees), Emmett Conroy.
SUBS USED: Kyle Cawley(0-1) for Conroy, Martin Guildford for Murtagh (Black card).

Tarmonbarry 100km Cycle Challenge

Many thanks to everyone who made our Tarmonbarry 100km Cycle Challenge such a successful event again on Sunday morning last. Thanks to everyone who helped with registration, marshalling, and catering for our cyclists, and to Eddie and the committee for putting the event together again, and of course to all of the cyclists who again supported the event in large numbers.
The cycle was very successful and enjoyable, with calm, benign weather conditions for the cyclists.
