Round four of the Roscommon GAA Senior, Intermediate and Junior Football Championships took place over the weekend.
Here is a brief round-up of the action.
Hodson Bay Hotel Group Senior Football Championship
Padraig Pearses top Section A following a 1-13 to 0-6 win over Castlerea St Kevins. The game was a tight affair until the last ten minutes when the men in red scored 1-5. The Padraig Pearses goal came from Sean Fahy. Castlerea occupy the bottom spot.
The other four teams in Section A now sit on four points and the last round promises to be an exciting day. Cian McKeon was in fine form, scoring five points, as Boyle got back to winning ways, defeating Roscommon Gaels by 3-11 to 3-8. Darren O’Connor, Mark O’Connor and Killian Cox were the Boyle goal scorers. Cian Connolly scored two of Roscommon Gaels’ goals (as well as five points) with Kieran Kilcline scoring the other.
Cathal Shine, Donie Shine, who played a more defensive role at times, and Graham Pettit were Clann na nGael’s star men as they defeated St Brigids by 0-12 to 1-6. Senan Kilbride scored 1-3 for the visitors. He was denied a second goal after his lob from 30 metres was intercepted by Donie Shine.
In Section B Diarmuid Murtagh was in top form scoring all three goals and a handful of points as St Faithleachs defeated St Croans by 3-12 to 0-16.
Donal Molloy, Diarmuid McGann and Kevin Finn were the goal scorers as Strokestown comprehensively defeated Michael Glaveys by 3-20 to 1-5.
A late Shane Beirne point ultimately proved the difference as Elphin got a crucial 2-11 to 0-16 win over Western Gaels. Frankie Cregg led the Elphin scoring with 1-4 and John Collins kicked 0-5. The Gaels has nine different scorers with James McDonnell and Niall Higgins scoring 0-3 each
Mulryan Construction Intermediate Football Championship
Two goals from Richard Feeney help Tulsk Lord Edwards to a 6-11 to 1-12 win over Kilbride. The others coming from Padraig Scott, Tadhg O’Rourke, Kieran Donoghue and Niall Casserly.
Niall Kilroy scored half of Fuerty’s total as they defeated Oran by 0-14 to 0-7. Adrian Cassidy was Oran’s top scorer with 4 points.
St Dominics got back to winning ways, defeating Kilmore by 1-12 to 1-11. Conor Fallon and Ultan Kelly both scored five points for the home side. Paul Garvey scored six for the visitors.
In Section B Éire Óg maintained their unbeaten record, defeating bottom side St Michaels by 3-11 to 1-3. Liam Creaton, Sean Groarke and Lee Keenan with the Éire Óg goals.
Shannon Gaels, who drew with Eire Óg last week, are in the second quarter-final position after defeating St Barrys by 2-10 to 1-11.
St Aidans got back to winning ways, defeating Clan na nGael B by 2-16 to 1-9.
Warm & Cosy Homes Junior A Football Championship
Creggs remain unbeaten in this year’s Championship after defeating second placed Kilglass Gaels by 3-12 to 0-13. The first half was very closely contested with Creggs leading by 1-6 to 7 at the interval. The second half was all “one way traffic” although Gavin Tully’s persistence narrowed the gap with three late consolation points for Kilglass. Shane Dowd the star of the show with a tally of 3-5.
Gavin Byrne scored 2-2 as St Brigids B defeated St Dominics B by 2-11 2-6. St Ronans recorded a crucial 1-9 to 0-9 win over Ballinameen.
Unbeaten Pádraig Pearses B sit on top of Section B. They defeated Castlerea St Kevins by 3-11 to 2-8. Western Gaels B are second in the Table and had a Bye last weekend. Strokestown B are level on points with them after defeating St Josephs by 2-16 to 0-13
In the Warm & Cosy Homes Junior B Football Championship
Roscommon Gaels B defeated Boyle B by 5-16 to 1-4 and Fuerty B overcame St Faithleachs B by 1-14 to 0-9.
