The Roscommon and District Umbro Masters Football season came to an end yesterday with St Francis FC completing the League and Cup double.

They defeated St Comans 4-2 on penalties after the sides drew 2-2 at the end of normal time.

In other news, the Roscommon and District League wish to congratulate Shiven Rovers on the fantastic selection as FAI Aviva Club of the year for 2016.

It is an unbelievable achievement for the East Galway Club, who play their games in the Roscommon and District League, to come out on top in the final after overcoming seven of the top Clubs in the Country. Their success was based on their wonderful facilities at their grounds near Newbridge as well as the number of and make up of their teams competing in the various competitions. Their facilities have to be seen to be believed. Included are three full size pitches one of which has a fully certified floodlighting system. They also have a floodlight all weather Astro Turf pitch. Their Clubhouse includes the most up to date equipment with a fully outfitted gem and phisio room as well as dressing rooms meeting rooms trophy room and a covered in area for supporters. The Club have teams featuring in every age group up to eighteen years of age and have ladies senior teams and girls teams. Their senior men’s teams compete in the Roscommon and District League and were crowned Division 1 Champions just a few weeks ago. They also reached the Challenge Cup Semi-Finals and the Division 1 Cup Final.

Their Chairman Sean Gavin is quick to point out that all these facilities would not have come to fruition over the last twenty years without the total support of the people in the surrounding areas. He paid tribute to the hard working committees who gave so much of their time and all the people who voluntary gave their time over the years. The Club will now go forward to the finals of the UEFA Club of the year.
Overall it was an outstanding achievement by the Committee of Shiven Rovers and the Community as a whole.

Everyone involved in the Roscommon and District league wish to extend their congratulations and best wishes.
