Once again, an exciting range of children’s and adults workshops have been organised for Boyle Arts Festival which will run from July 21st to 31st.

First up, for Children aged 7 to 11 on July 22nd there’s ‘The Secret Lives of Mothers’ a poetry workshop by Gerry Boland, who will use selected poems from his recently-published collection to trigger new ideas and poems from the workshop participants. With Gerry’s enthusiastic and expert guidance, original and funny poems are just waiting to be created.

On July 23rd Susan Boyle will lead workshops where you can make and design candles or design a colourful bag or T shirt. This workshop is suitable for children aged 6 years upwards.

For Fun, friendships, laughter and games, prepare to be transported on a journey for theatrical delights. Sing, move, act, and go to places you have only dreamed of. Catherine Simon’s Summer Drama Group will take place from July 25th to 29th and is suitable for 4 to 10 year olds.

Back by popular demand is Mini Singskool with Roisín Egan, an exciting workshop action packed with singing & performing, allowing your child to really shine! Suitable for 3 to 6 year olds.  Join fully qualified music instructors for a week of creativity and fun and then show off your new skills in a show-stopping performance at the end of the week for your family and friends. This workshop will run from Monday 27th July 25th

There will also be a Sean Nós dancing workshop on July 26th and 27th for age 7 up. Learn old style Sean Nós dancing with dancer, teacher and choreographer Edwina Guckian. You can attend one or both of the sessions.

Also for children, there’s a chance to see the pop-up mobile planetarium ‘Exploration Dome’ in Abbey community College on July 22nd, every hour on the half hour, from 12:30pm to 3:30pm. Also, don’t miss the screening of Kung Fu Panda 3 in the King House auditorium on July 28th at 3pm.

In the Workshop programme for adults, Susan Boyle will conduct a Shibori Indigo Dye Workshop on July 23rd in Abbey Community College. Kate Dempsey will present a poetry workshop entitled ‘Memory’ in the Enterprise Centre, also on July 23rd. This workshop is for anyone who would like to begin to write poetry in a safe, supporting environment so you can leave with the draft of at least one piece of writing with energy and confidence.

Three time winner of Comhaltas Ceolteóirí Éireann, Rita Gallagher will present a singer’s workshop in Dodd’s Crescent bar on July 28th and the admission also includes entry to the Boyle Singer’s Night, later the same evening.

‘Finding your Poetic Voice’ is a poetry workshop presented by Gerry Boland. The workshop will look at a range of poems by different poets and will endeavour to identify the poetic voice contained therein. Workshop participants will be given writing exercises the purpose of which is to help each poet find their own poetic voice. Boyle Enterprise Centre on July 30th.

Patricia O’Reilly will unravel the ‘Secrets of Writing Fiction’ during a special workshop in the Enterprise Centre on July 30th. Create plots, build page-turning characters, choose settings / locations and know the writing secrets of award-winning authors….
