Special arrangements in Galway ahead of influx of Roscommon GAA supporters

A number of arrangements are being put in place to facilitate the large number of Roscommon GAA supporters who are expected to travel to Salthill for Sunday’s Connacht Senior Football Championship Final.

Pearse Stadium will be open from 10:30am and the Minor Game throws in at 12 noon with the Senior Game starting at 2pm.

The now traditional Club Rossie pre-match gathering continues. This Sunday morning “The Meet Up Before The Match” in The Galway Bay Hotel. There is a special “Primrose and Blue” Breakfast deal where a full breakfast costs €10. It will be running from 10am until 12noon. Supporters are being encouraged to come early, park their car, have breakfast and walk to the pitch. Any Club Rossie Members attending the breakfast is asked to Text 086 8399584 so numbers can be supplied to the Hotel. According to Club Rossie Spokesman David O’Connor “there will be a special atmosphere in Galway and in the hotel on Sunday morning”.

Parking

A Garda traffic management plan will be in operation on the day and drivers are reminded to comply with signage and detour suggestions, parking signs and cones. When parking to have consideration for other road users, pedestrians and residents. Traffic in Galway on Sunday will be heavy so people are asked to leave in good time and be prepared for delays on route.

7. B&Q /Dunnes Stores Business Park Western Distributor Road
Roscommon

A town bus service operates from Eyre Square to Pearse Stadium and there will be addition buses on this service on Sunday. The 401 bus runs from Eyre Square Stop 9 to Dr Mannix Rd GAA HQ (Pearse Stadium) Buses leave Eyre Square at 10:00, 10:40 11:20 12:00 12:40 13:20 and it’s a 20 minute journey.

Public Transport

In addition Iarnród Éireann are advising supporters to avoid the traffic and travel in comfort to support the Roscommon Football Team. They have a train running from Athlone at 10:35 and Ballinasloe at 10.48hrs. It arrives in Galway at 11:40. Return trains depart Galway Station at 17.00hrs and 18.00hrs Tickets available on-line at www.irishrail.ie or at your local Iarnród Éireann Station. Advance booking is essential.
