Mid-Western Girls Soccer League Team perform well in Gaynor Cup
The Mid-Western Girls Soccer League Under 16 Team took part in the Gaynor Cup in Limerick at the weekend and acquitted themselves exceptionally well.
The girls got off to a flying start with an emphatic 6-0 win over South Tipperary. Ailish Morrissey, Aoife Gavin (2), Aimee O’Connor, Ciara Corcoran & Sarah Scally were all on target.
Limerick County were defeated 3-1 thanks to goals from Ailish Morrissey, Aimee O’Connor & Savannah Cassidy.
In the third and final group game the girls defeated NECSL 1-0 thanks to an Ailish Morrissey free kick. They finished top of their group and advanced to the Semi-Finals.
In the semi-final, the Mid-Western Girls Soccer League side faced a strong Galway outfit and despite going 2-0 behind the girls never gave up. Aoife Gavin pulled a goal back but an equaliser wound not come.
In the 3rd/4th place game the girls were unlucky to lose out on penalties to Mayo after a scoreless draw.
Well done to all the players and management on finishing 4th place in Ireland – a fantastic achievement.
