It was another very busy week at Carrick Golf Club. The following is a look back on the action and a look ahead to this week’s fixtures.

Results

Ging’s Bar Stroke

Club Captain Damien Duignan won the inaugural Ging’s Bar sponsored stroke competition on Sunday May 29, Damien, who’s father Ging Duignan owned and ran Ging’s Bar for years shot 66 to win by one from Chris Lowe 67 David McDermott won the gross 74 and John Coffey was third also with 67.

Carrick Carnival Mens Open

James Connors 42 points won the Carrick Carnival Open played over Bank Holiday Weekend June 3 – 6. Gary Vesey was second with 41 Tony McPhilips with 40 points was third & the gross was won by Tony Bree from Westport. .

Inter Club Round-up

Seniors lost Zone final to a very strong Strandhill team on Wed June 1, with three matches away it was always going to be a tough task and so it proved with Carrick loosing 4.5 .5 Pat King & Pat Gannon lost 3/2 Tommy Aherne & Johnny Martin lost also by 3/2 Jim King & Tommy Mulvey halved while at home Albert Hogg & Tom Daly lost 2/1 and Frank McGrath & Leo Mulvey lost on 18th.

Cecil Ewing team are through to Connacht semi final after their victory over Strokestown on Friday 10th June winning 4-1 the team at home was Colm Griffin & Kevin Ward won 5/4 John Moffatt & Declan Loftus won 4/3 while away Kieran Oates & Gerry McDermott halved as did Andy Connellan & Seamus Sweeney the crucial away win came from Padraig MacShera & Tony McPhilips who won by a dog licence 7/6. Semi Final on 26 June v Athenry or Galway Golf Club.

On Sat 11 June the Jimmy Bruen Team, Captained by his brother Liam Bruen, were narrowly defeated by Tubbercurry 3-2, another tough task was set with three matches away in Tubbercurry first up Eamonn McGirl & Noel McDermott who were 4 down early on but fought back well to win 1 up. Tommy Mulvey & John Coffey lot 3/2 Pat King & Paul O’Brien also lost 3/2 at Home Sean Bohan & Keith Duignan won 5/4 Shane Kelly & Paul Roche lost on 18th.

This weekend June 18th and 19th John Moffatt’s Presidents Prize takes place, booking for preferred playing time is now available online. Names on timesheet by Friday please, for draw Saturday. Sunday Tee times between 11am and 1pm.

Australia Spoon Qualifier

Busy weekend ahead, qualifier on Saturday. It’s straight foursomes. Names please on entry form list in LLR by Thursday June 16th for Friday draw. Saturday Tee times between 10am-12pm.

On Saturday June 25th and 26th the Club Annual Classic takes place.
