The Mid Western Girls Soccer League Teams have had a busy time of late with U12, U14 & U16 squads all in action
Firstly, the Under 12, Under 14 & Under 16 Teams travelled to Donegal to take part in the annual Inishowen Tournament on Saturday 21st May. Sincere thanks to all the players, parents & coaches who travelled. Thanks also to our sponsors: Westward Scania & Geraghty Travel for supplying kits for the teams.
On Saturday last the MWGL Under 12 squad played in the National Inter-League competition in Sligo. The girls acquitted themselves very well only losing out narrowly to Inishowen & a very strong Mayo side. Rebacca Glynn was the MWGL Player of the tournament.
MWGL Under 14s defeated Longford 3-2 as they continue preparations for next weekend’s Gaynor Cup in Limerick. Good luck to all next weekend.
The Under 16 girls had a hard-earned 2-1 win over Longford. Ciara Corcoran came close early on and Sarah Scally opened the scoring with a great finish after 25 minutes. Longford equalised to leave the game tied at the interval. Substitute Ailish Morrissey came close shortly after her half-time introduction. On 60 minutes Ailish did hit he target with a great shot to give the MWGL girls a lead that they would not relinquish. Best on the day for MWGL were Siobhan Fahy & Siobhan Irwin in defence, Aisling Walsh, Aimee O’Connor, Aoife Gavin, Sarah Scally & Ailish Morrisey. Next fixture is against Mayo with the date & venue yet to be confirmed.
Ballaghaderreen host Under 8 Blitz
Ballaghaderreen FC hosted the first U8 blitz of the season on Saturday with 6 teams teams taking part in a most enjoyable day’s soccer. Well done to all the players, parents and coaches and thank you to the referee’s & to Seamus and the Ballaghaderreen club who were excellent hosts on the day.
