Roscommon’s Stiofán Ó Fearail won the Réalta Óg na Bliana (Young Star of the Year) Award at the 2016 Oireachtas Media Awards, which took place in the Salthill Hotel, Galway last night.

A teacher based in Dublin, Stiofán is best known for his work with Seo Linn, a band which was formed by friends attending Coláiste Lurgan in Connemara. They began with Irish cover versions of pop and dance songs, most notably Avicii’s ‘Wake Me Up’ and earlier this year they released their first original single “Music Makers” which featured on RTE’s acclaimed Centenary Concert:

Stiofán’s Award came for his work on ‘Cleas Act’ which was his first presenting role. The Gaeil Scoileanna from throughout the country and as well as chatting with Stiofán and fellow presenter Eibhlín Ní Chonghaile, the kids from each featured school get to sing with Seo Linn, dance and tell jokes. The programme is shown on Sunday’s at 8pm and repeated on Wednesday’s at 6pm
