Intermediate Championship: St Barrys 0-12 St Michaels 0-9

St Barrys enjoyed a hard fought win over old rivals St Michael’s in a sunny Cootehall in the 1st game of the Intermediate Championship. The foundations of the win were laid in the first few minutes, when 3 points in the opening minutes helped Barry’s to a 6-1 lead. Michael’s fought back to only trail by two at halftime, setting up a ding-dong second half. Try as they might, St Michael’s just couldn’t get level. Martin Guildford and David Keenan scored two crucial points in quick succession for St Barry’s to open a 4 point lead entering injury time, and they held out comfortably on a scoreline of 12 points to 9.

Ladies lose out in League

St Barry’s Adult Ladies were beaten by Michael Glaveys in their league game on Sunday. The 1st half was evenly contested, and good Barry’s play created several goal chances, but we were unable to convert, while Glaveys were able to convert the chances that came their way. The loss of Claire McGlynn, Maebh Holmes & Rebecca Cox either side of halftime proved too much of a mountain to climb, and Glavey’s ended up convincing winners in the end.
Team: Rebecca Cox, Rhiannon Cox, Jane McGowan, Geraldine Farrell, Michelle Cahill, Jaimie Fallon, Amy Cousins, Meabh Holmes, Oonagh Farrell, Lisa Murtagh, Denise Bennett, Claire McGlynn, Aine Halpin, Ailish O’Reilly, Laura Beirne, Shauna Rogan, Sarah McVeigh.

Underage round-up

The club hosted a very enjoyable Under 10 Girls Blitz on Saturday. Teams from St Barry’s, Clonguish, and St Joseph’s Kilbeggan took part. Thanks to the crew who organised and helped out during the event, a hugely enjoyable day was had by all in spite of the weather.

Well done also to all of the Under 8 crew who braved the wet conditions to perform well in the Blitz in Ballyfarnon on Saturday.

The Under 12 Girls beat Oran in a keenly contested Championship game in Tarmon on Sunday evening. Trailing by 2 points at half-time, the girls pushed on well in the second half for a good win.

The Under 14 Girls get their league campaign underway with a trip to Roscommon Gaels on this Wednesday.

The Under 12 lads had a big win over Shannon Gaels in Croghan on Sunday.

The U14 lads were beaten by St Faithleach’s in a high scoring game last week.
