A Roscommon man walked free from the Central Criminal Court earlier today after the State’s legal team dropped the murder charge against him.

Matthew Gralton of Mount Prospect, Roscommon, who along with Ross Allen of Carrickmines and Clara, stood accused of murder for their alleged part in the killing of 47-year-old Christy Daly at Bog Lane, Kilbride, Clara, Co Offaly on a date between December 29, 2013 and January 7, 2014.
Matthew Gralton had pleaded not guilty to the charge when the trial commenced last month and after several days of legal argument Justice Patrick McCarthy told the jury today that the State had dropped the charge. The prosecution discharged Mr Gralton but the trial of Ross Allen will continue.
