Celebrity TV Chef Kevin Dundon is among those who will feature at the new two day Lough Ree ‘Taste of the Lakelands’ food festival in October.
With over two hundred visitors from fifteen countries visiting county Roscommon in October for the World Predator Boat Fishing Championships, the Lough Ree Angling Hub has set up a new sub committee to stage a two day International food festival in a giant marquee behind the hall in Lanesborough on Friday October 7th and Saturday October 8th.
The ‘Taste of the Lakelands’ food festival is supported by Failte Ireland (Lakelands Tourism), Longford and Roscommon County Enterprise Boards, Waterways Ireland, Supervalu and will attract visitors from all over the country and abroad over the two days.
The event will be a huge showcase for food producers from throughout this area and the organisers are inviting all small producers of products such as cheeses, mushrooms, chocolate, coffees, breads, artisan foods and anything else grown or made in this area to take part. The fish of the Shannon will obviously feature fairly centrally.
Throughout the two days there will be live cookery displays – featuring the TV celebrity chef Kevin Dundon (courtesy of Bernard Keane , Supervalu Lanesbrough) and local expert Chefs such as Paul Horohoe from PS Red in Ballyleague and Philip Gordon from The Swan Tavern in Lanesborough. The committee has also invited Kieran Glennon, Head Chef of Patrick Guilbaud’s Michelin 2 Star Restaurant in Dublin – who is a native of the Ballyleague area to attend, along with Mary and Patricia O’Loughlin of the Sisters Bistro in Lanesborough.
It is also hoped to stage outdoor watersports activities and children’s entertainment on the weekend – weather permitting – as part of a ‘Blueways Blow-out’ event beside the Shannon.
The weekend will commence with a community ‘bake-off’ event for a local project – to be announced later.
