Athlone Town play host to Cabinteely FC this evening (Friday 22nd April) looking to build on their 4 draws this season and in turn pull away from the bottom of the Airtricity League First Division Table in a season where a play-off spot looks between a number of teams with just 7 points separating 2nd from bottom.
Athlone Town secured their fourth point of the season last Saturday when they surrendered a 2 goal lead against Cobh Ramblers and came away with just a point when three look well within their reach. On Tuesday night they lost out 3-0 to Shamrock Rovers in the 2nd Round of the EA Sports Cup.
Last weekend Cabinteely became the latest team to fall to Limerick in the Markets Field losing out by 3-0 leaving them on a run of 4 consecutive losses.
Their only win of this season came against Athlone Town on the opening day of the season when they won by the odd goal in three.
The clubs have only met in the league on 5 occasions since Cabinteely entered the league in 2015 with Athlone winning 1, losing 3 and the other ending in a draw. In those games a total of 14 goals have been scored at an average of 2.8 goals per game.
Alan Mathews has no suspensions and at the time of writing there were no injuries to report.
Kick off in the Athlone Town Stadium is scheduled for 7.45pm.
