O’Gara Cup: St Dominics 3-9 Fuerty 0-14 St Dominics secured another two points when they overcame Fuerty on Sunday last in Mulhern Park. Fuerty aided by the breeze started well and led by three points to nil after ten minutes with points from Lyons, Brennan and Leahy. Dominics settled after this and a Conor Fallon free was followed by a fisted Michael Finneran goal and a further point from Eoin McCormack. Leahy and Lyons added further points for Fuerty to which Conor Fallon replied with a pointed free to leave it 1-3 to 0-5 to the Knockcroghery men at the break. An excellent Peter Leahy point on the resumption levelled matters but then Dominics with Malachy Gately back in charge of his home Club took control and points from Finneran, Fallon, sub Kenny Beirne and a cracking goal from the impressive Tommy Hurley opened up a six point gap for Dominics by the 42nd minute. Fuerty rallied and points from Lyons, Brennan and Ward narrowed the gap to three but another Tommy Hurley goal and a Michael Finneran point restored a comfortable seven point lead with five minutes remaining. The final minutes was end to end stuff with both sides using their substitutes and Fuerty did rally well with points from Brennan (2), Lyons (2) and Darragh Mullen but St Dominics who were well in control added points from C. Fallon and C. Hunt to secure a deserved victory. Training for our senior hurlers takes place on Saturday evenings at 7pm. Everyone is asked to attend. All newcomers welcome.
Senior: Training continues for the Senior team, details will be sent out via text. U14s: Our U14 camogie team have one remaining round robin game to be played versus Roscommon Gaels. The result of this game will decide who the team plays in the Semi-final. Details will be sent out via text. Camogie is back for beginners, U8 and U10. Beginners and U8 – which are girls born in 2008, 2009 and 2010 – continues at 6.30pm on Thursday evenings in St John’s Community Centre. While the U10’s – girls born in 2006 and 2007 – continues on Wednesday evenings in St. John’s FC Astroturf at 6pm. County Minor: Best of luck to the Roscommon County Minor Camogie team in the All Ireland B Final v Down next Saturday 23rd April and the two St Dominics girls Rachel Dolan and Eimear McNally.
If there is anyone interested in representing our club at the GAA National 1916 commemorative event in Croke Park on Sunday 24th of April please forward their name to any committee member as soon as possible, to be included in the selection process. St Dominic’s U6/U8 and U10 combined ladies football training continues each Saturday from 10am to 11am at St. John’s Community Centre. Please remember to bring your mouth guards and water, thank you. The U12 girls got their non-competitive Spring League underway last week. They put in a very spirited performance against a stronger St. Brigid’s side and play Four Roads next. Our U16 ladies took on St. Brigid’s in the Division 1B championship Semi-Final on Sunday 17th last. It was a great game on display for the spectators. A close first half saw St. Brigid’s lose a girl through injury. St Dominics pushed on in the second half to win. They play the Division 1B Final against play St. Mary’s on Sunday, 24th April at 4.30pm in Kiltoom. Roscommon County U16 ladies got their Championship underway when they met Galway on 13th of April last. It was a very thrilling game in which Roscommon were leading throughout. Unfortunately, with the last kick of the game Galway secured a point which saw them win on a score line of 3-12 to 3-11. St Dominics are well represented on this panel by A. O’Connor, A.Walsh, A.Gavin, C.Corcoran, E. Silke, and S. Casey. They play Mayo in Round 2 next Wednesday 20th of April, good luck to all.
St Dominic’s u14 lads took on Roscommon Gaels at Lisnamult in Round 5 of the Championship on Sunday evening last. Unfortunately the lads were beaten by a stronger side. Details of training will be sent out during the week. St. Dominic’s Minor hurlers play Four Roads in the Championship semi-final next Wednesday 20th April throw in at 6.15pm in Athleague.
