Ballinasloe Town aiming for Final return

Ballinasloe

Roscommon and District League Premier Division side Ballinasloe Town will play the Galway Premier Division side Mervue United at the Curragh Grounds Ballinasloe in the Connacht Cup Semi-Final.

It’s a big occasion for the Ballinasloe Town as they are on track for their fourth victory in this completion. Ballinasloe Town have previously won the Connacht Cup in 2004,2013 and 2014 with many of the players who played in the last two final wins still playing for the side. Aidan Fallon is still their regular goalkeeper while Peter Keighery, Darragh Concannon, Shane Duffy, Liam Lynch, Des Hope and Mark Duffy have all the experience of winning the Connacht Cup. In young Jordan O’Leary and Manood Giumma the home side seem to have two talented players who are well scoring goals. Mike Madden and Joby Kelly are newcomers to the Connacht Cup but they are all good players.
While it could be argue that the Town had an easier run to reach the Semi Final they were comfortable winners in all the previous rounds. Opponents Mervue United are a strong side and in the Quarter Finals they travelled to the Leitrim side Manor United and while they had a major battle against a talented Manorhamilton side they still came away with the vital win.
Ballinasloe Town, with home advantage, will concede few goals and must be fancied to advance to the Final.
