Camogie
Senior: The senior team had their first outing of the year last Saturday week on a wet and windy day in Knockcroghery. The league game against Kilimor was a competitive affair with the conditions making good camogie difficult for both sides. Good points from play by Susan Spillane and Aisling Dolan saw Dominics ahead at half time on a score line of 0-5 to 1-1. The second half followed a similar pattern until goals by Susan Spillane and Caoilfhionn Cox put the home side in the driving seat. St Dominics went on to win on a score line of 2-11 to 1-2. This victory was built on a solid defensive display and some good score taking in the forward division. Panel on the day was: C. Connaughton, R Roddy, E McNally, S Beirne, R Dolan, J Beattie, R Corcoran, C Dowling, N Watson, A Dolan, S Spillane, S Carney, Z Feeley, C Cox, E Carney, A O’Meara, C Miley, M Mcloughlin.
On Saturday last, the senior team took the trip to Galway city and came away with all three points in the latest round of the Galway league against Liam Mellows. In testing conditions, the Knockcroghery girls led from the start following two frees by Aisling Byrne and good points by Zara Feeley and Caoilfhionn Cox. Further scores in the second half by Roisin Roddy, Rachel Corcoran and a goal by Julie Healy meant St Dominics finished winners on a score line of 1-8 to 0-2. Much like the earlier victory over Kilimor this result was achieved via a strong defensive display with Eimear McNally and Rachel Dolan to the fore. Panel on the day was: A. Coyle, S Beirne, E McNally, L Kilcline, R Dolan, A Byrne, A Dolan, R Corcoran, S Carney, R Roddy, C Cox, A O’Meara, C Miley, J Healy, Z Feeley, E Carney. Details of upcoming training and games will be sent out via text.
U14: Our U14 camogie team played their 4th game of this year’s Championship when they faced a very physical and strong Pearses team in Woodmount on Tuesday 5th at 6.30pm. Our Defence were under pressure from the start but defended really well throughout the game. The commitment and effort of the team could not be questioned throughout but they succumbed to a team that will take beating in this championship. It’s always difficult to pick out players in a match but special mention must go to Ellen Cafferkey in goals who made some excellent saves and very good decisions throughout the game. The team lined out as follows. 1. Ellen Cafferkey. 2. Katie Lohan. 3. Ciara Roddy. 4. Tara Murphy. 5. Ciara Martin. 6. Chloe Mc Donnell. 7. Davina Touhey. 8. Ava Sweeney. 9. Ina Van Opstal. 10. Esther Bridcut Barry. 11. Aine Cassidy. 12. Niamh Cuttle. 13. Evelyn Kilcline. 14. Ali Campbell. 15. Kate O Brien. Subs. Leona Harney for Ava Sweeney (injured, half time). Laoise Mahon for Davina Touhey (half time). Natasha Keenan for Ina Van Opstal (Injured). Katie Hennessy for Evelyn Kilcline. Hannah Dempsey for Kate O Brien. Our final group game is next Tuesday, 12th April at 6.30pm away to Roscommon Gaels. This is a vital game for the development of this team so all support will be appreciated.
