Buccaneers RFC News update for March 28th

Buccaneers RFC
Pre-Match For Old Wesley Game

Buccaneers’ final Ulster Bank League home fixture is the closest thing that the club has to a ‘derby’ match when Old Wesley roll into town on Saturday for a Division 1B showdown. Just one solitary point separates the teams as they chase the final Top Four play-off berth. With no less than six ex-Buccs players (Adam Kennedy, Billy Henshaw, Conor FitzGibbon, David Henshaw, Paul Harte and Niall O’Brien) in the Old Wesley camp, there is added spice to this ‘winner takes all’ clash. The club is holding a pre-match function with a guest speaker for the occasion at which you can enjoy a 3-course lunch with wine, free admission to the game and a complimentary match-day programme for just €30 per person. Group or individual bookings can be catered for. Contact Geraldine at 0861732711 or Pat Hynes 0876883833 to book.

Congrats Corey

Congratulations to Corey Reid who played for Ireland U-18s in the Tri Nations Festival match against France. The richly promising centre suffered an injury in that match but, hopefully, will be fit for Saturday’s game against England at Ashbourne.

St Peter’s Cup Matches In Dubarry Park

St. Peter’s Football Club has two massive FAI Cup matches coming up this month and they are staging both of them at Dubarry Park. First up is the FAI Junior Cup semi-final against Limerick side Pike Rovers on Saturday night April 9th. This should be a cracking game of football as St Peter’s bid to emulate their fairytale story of 2009 when they reached the final despite having only one home fixture en-route to that magnificent feat. Kick off is 7.30 p.m. Meanwhile, this season’s Junior Cup final will be played at the Aviva Stadium!
Due to reaching the last four of the hugely competitive Junior Cup, St Peter’s have also qualified for the first round of the FAI Senior Cup in which they have been drawn at home to Cork club Leeside Celtic. That match takes place on the following Saturday night April 16th also kicking off at 7.30 p.m. Should the Hoops win that game, then they would go into the second round draw which will include the League of Ireland clubs. What odds a match against Athlone Town at Dubarry Park in that round?!

End Of Season Ball

Buccaneers end of season GALA BALL takes place at the Athlone Sheraton Hotel on Saturday, May 7th. The adult player of the year awards will be presented at the event as well as the award to the Buccaneers Club Person of the year. Buccs players who represented Ireland during the season will also be honoured on the night. There will be a guest speaker and live music. Tickets for this black tie occasion are €35 each. Further information next week.
