Roscommon Pride of Place

Roscommon County Council is inviting community groups across the county to participate in the 2016 County Roscommon Pride of Place Competition.

Pride of Place is an All-Island competition organised by Co-Operation Ireland. The competition celebrates the contribution of community group’s to local society and the creation of civic pride through communities working together.

Roscommon community groups have been successful in the All-Island competiton with Kilteevan Community Development Group and Roscommon Lion’s Club receiving Awards at the 2015 ceremony last November. Roscommon Lion’s Club (pictured above) received an Award for its involvement in the development of the Quad Centre in Roscommon town with judges citing the following:

Not alone has this group sought, undertaken, created and financed a premises for the needs of young people, but a unique partnership with a Youth Organisation has been forged with a veritable myriad of volunteers. It almost goes without saying that all activities and programmes are well researched and planned in consultation with those young people.

This year’s competition is divided into 11 categories and Roscommon County Council proposes to nominate suitable groups under one or more of the following categories:

Category 1 = Population 0 – 300
Category 2 = Population between 300 – 1,000
Category 3 = Population between 1,000 – 2,000
Category 4 = Population between 2,000 – 5,000

Category 6 = Age Friendly Community Initiative
Category 7 = Community Enterprise Initiative
Category 8 = Communities Reaching Out Initiative
Category 9 = Housing Estates
