Hurling

The Roscommon Senior Hurlers maintained their 100% record, defeating Tyrone by 4-13 to 1-14 in the last group game of the Allianz League. They will face Monaghan in the Final next weekend, details will be confirmed tomorrow afternoon.

Soccer

Boyle Celtic were knocked out of the Connacht Junior Cup in heartbreaking fashion following a goal in the last minute of injury time; a few moments after they had equalised after being 1-0 down for most of the game. Final score Corrib Rangers 2 Boyle Celtic 1.

Cloonfad Utd defeated MD Town 2-1 in The Herald Premier Division of the Roscommon and DIstrict Football League

Handball

St Comans’ Fiona Tully (pictured above) won the All-Ireland Minor Ladies 40×20 Handball title, defeating Hannah Dagg (Kildare) 21-19, 17-21, 21-12.
Earlier, Curraghboy’s Ger Walsh was defeated by Kildare’s Mickey Dowling in the All-Ireland Emerald Masters 40×20 Handball Final.

Gaelic Football

The Roscommon Under 21 Footballers defeated Sligo by 1-18 to 0-8 to book a place in the Connacht Final for a seventh year in a row – read our report here.
The Roscommon Minors defeated an understrength Sligo team in the Connacht League by 3-12 to 0-7. The goals coming from Daniel Glynn, Lorcan Daly and Cathal Heneghan.
In the Tansey Cup – Adult Football League Division Three Ballinameen defeated Elphin B by 2-8 to 0-12.
The GAA announced a number of decisions that were made at today’s Central Council Meeting:

  • The introduction of “The mark”, will take take place on January 1st 2017.
  • It was agreed to introduce an Under 17 Championship for 2017 to ensure players eligible for that age group would have a inter-county Championship to compete in as the Minor Championship is being discontinued from 2018 onwards.
  • It was also confirmed that the division one semi-finals in the Allianz Football League will be discontinued next year.
  • A decision was also taken to play the U21 hurling final earlier in the year, before the All-Ireland senior hurling final.
  • Ladies Football

    The Roscommon Minors defeated Leitrim by 7-20 to 0-3 in Round 2 of the Connacht Championship in Mohill this morning.

    Friday March 18th

    Camogie

    Yesterday evening the Roscommon Minor Camogie team defeated Kildare by 1-7 to 1-6 in the second group game of the All-Ireland B Championship

    Pool

    “Eddies” defeated “The Central” 5-4 in the first leg of the Roscommon Pool League Shield Semi-Final
