Men’s Football
Junior Team
The Junior team recorded their 2nd win in the Div 3 league against Kilglass Gaels in Frenchpark on Saturday evening last. Kilglass Gaels made the brighter start to the game and were 3 pts up before Western Gaels registered their opening score. Western Gaels then got a foothold in the game and built a 7pts to 4 lead just before half time when Kilglass Gaels were awarded and dispatched a penalty to level the game. Kilglass Gaels then scored their 2nd goal early in the 2nd half to open up a 3pt lead. Western Gaels kept battling away and got a lucky goal with 5 mins remaining to retake the lead. We secured the win with a late point and had to weather some pressure around our goalmouth in injury time but we secured the win and the 2pts. Final scoreline of 1-12 to 2-07.
Team: A Hardiman, J Brady, A Freyne, J Devine, T Devine, S Conry, O Ward(0-3), N Murray(0-1), J Duffy(0-2, 1f), C Casserley, Niall Higgins(0-2, 1f), S Carroll, C Sampey(0-4), S Carroll, Noel Higgins(1-0).
Sub: D McGarry, D Ryan.
Thanks to all who came out and supported the team on the day. We wish Michael McCormack from Kilglass Gaels a speedy recovery from his injury sustained during the game.
