St John’s Athletic 1-1 Castlerea Celtic

St John’s A team took on Castlerea Celtic at Leisurezone Lecarrow in this Premier Division encounter.
This game was played at a very high tempo from start to finish with both teams playing some sublime football and creating many chances. Dermot Donnelly in the heart of St John’s defence was excellent keeping things tight along with Mattie, Tom & Danny. In Midfield James Heffernan was grafting hard in breaking up Castlerea play while Colm, Kenny, Ultan & Paul being very creative with the latter hitting the but of the post and Ultan whom Is getting better with age had a number of good shots one which seems unstoppable but somehow the Castlerea keeper got a hand to it to parry away. Tommy H lead the line brilliantly and could have scored a couple only for the keeper who was in fine form.
Despite all our good work Castlerea scored a header from a corner with 55 minutes gone and we were beginning to think was it going to be another day of if and buts like the previous two weeks but the lads never gave up and a formation change by manager Aidan O’Beirne moving Mattie into Midfield and putting on David, Ryan & Christy reaped instant reward when Mattie made a darting run into the box which caused panic and was pulled down by the Castlerea player which resulted in a penalty being awarded and converted by Tommy Hurley low to the corner with the keeper stranded to make it 1-1. This is how the game finished and it was a great team performance but man of the match was Sean Coyle in goal for a number of excellent saves especially 2 in the last 5 minutes when we were under a bit of pressure.

Next up Moore on St Patricks Day at Leisurezone Lecarrow.
