Independent Roscommon Galway Candidate Michael Fitzmaurice has welcomed the announcement this evening that Roscommon County Council has received an allocation of €4.5 million and Galway County Council have received €6 million in funding to repair flood damaged roads.
“Much work needs to be done in both counties so it remains to be seen if these monies will be enough and it is an issue that I will be keeping a close eye on over the next week and if I am elected next Friday it is an issue that I will be pursuing as a matter of urgency with the next Government.
Realistically we will need more funds to undo the massive damage that has been caused not only in Roscommon and Galway but all around the country. Now we need additional funding to do minor works schemes which would be aimed at preventing future flooding. We have to ensure that this work is done as efficiently as possible without red tape and needless expense. Roscommon and Galway County Councils are well able to do this work without consultants delaying the work and wasting taxpayers money”
