IFA Flood Project Chairman Tom Turley has encouraged farmers to participate in the Athlone Flooding Rally this Saturday, February 20th, at 12pm.
Tom Turley said that the rally, which is being supported by IFA, will involve both urban and rural dwellers who have been affected by the floods in many parts of the country over the past two months.
The rally will highlight the urgent need for a political commitment to the establishment of one river statutory body with authority to deal with all matters related to flooding.
Tom Turley said that it is very clear that one of the major impediments to getting flooding problems resolved relates to the plethora of agencies involved with no one body taking responsibility. Saturday’s rally is an opportunity to highlight this issue.
The rally will commence at the Golden Island Shopping Centre Car Park at 12 noon.
