Independent Election Candidate for Roscommon-Galway, Michael Fitzmaurice, has expressed his disappointment that a meeting with the incoming Chairman of An Post was cancelled due to the dissolving of the Dáil and announcement of the election date.
Speaking a short time ago he said “I, along with several other TD’ and Senators were very disappointed today when a planned meeting of a Dáil Committee with the Chairman designate of An Post Mr Dermot Divilly did not go ahead as planned at Leinster House. We all know that the election announcement is top of the agenda today but this was a very important meeting which affects services in rural areas in particular and it was very disappointing and a waste of many people’s time that the meeting did not go ahead as planned. Surely there should have been an allowance made for the meeting to take place as the future of An Post and financial and other services in rural areas is very important to so many people.”
