The Roscommon Senior Footballers secured successive wins in the FBD Connacht Senior Football League with a 0-12 to 0-8 win over NUI Galway at the Orchard Park, Elphin.
Fuerty’s Niall Kilroy got the opening score after two minutes however it took another 9 minutes for the second score of the afternoon to arrive; a point from Cian Connolly. NUIG got their first score of the game in the 16th minute but Roscommon replied with three frees from Cian Connolly and a point from play via Conor Devaney. The visitors could only muster one more score in the half to leave it at 0-6 to 0-2 at the interval.
NUIG dominated the opening stages of the second half; accounting for four of the first five flags raised – the sole Roscommon point coming from a Cian Connolly free. The last quarter was very keenly contest with both sides trading points and the scoreboard standing at Roscommon 0-10 NUIG 0-7 with five minutes to play – the Roscommon points coming from Niall Kilroy, Conor Daly and Captain Ciarán Murtagh. NUIG replied with a point in the 26th minute but points from Senan Kilbride and Ciarán Murtagh ensured a victory for Roscommon.
They host Mayo in the last Group game next Sunday at 2pm in Dr. Hyde Park.
