Player Awards Night
Western Gaels GAA club are pleased to announce that we will be hosting our inaugural player awards night on Friday night 21st April next in The Goal Post in Ballinagare. Its the 1st time the club has hosted this event and it has come about in conjunction with the family of the late Gerry and May Finneran who have kindly sponsored awards to honour Gerry and May’s contributions to both the Men’s and Ladies codes within Western Gaels GAA Club over a number of decades. We would encourage our club members to come out and support this night and to give a special appreciation to our Men’s and Ladies players who have excelled during the 2016 year.
Men’s Football
Senior Team:
The Devine and Co Chartered accountants sponsored senior team continued their winning start to the Division 1 league campaign with a hard fought 2 point win against Strokestown on Sunday afternoon last. Despite playing against a stiff breeze in the 1st half James McDonnell’s goal ensured a lead at the break and we maintained and extended that lead well into the 2nd half leading by 6 going into the closing 5 minutes. Strokestown got 4 unanswered points to ensure a nervous finish but we held on for the 2 points on a final scoreline of Western Gaels 2-11 Strokestown 0-15.

Intermediate Team:
The Intermediate team were well beaten by Creggs in the Div 2 league on Saturday evening last. 3 goals in the opening half decided this game and Creggs ran out convincing winners on a final scoreline of 3-14 to 1-05. We play Castlerea in the next round on Sunday afternoon next at 2pm in Castlerea.
Minor Team:
The Michael Cooney & Sons Ltd sponsored minor team have a busy week ahead with 2 games. We face St.Dominics on Tuesday evening next at 7pm in frenchpark and then Kilbride on saturday evening next at 5pm in Frenchpark.
U-16 Team:
The Michael Cooney & Sons Ltd sponsored U-16 team hard a hard fought draw against St.Faithleachs on sunday morning last in Frenchpark. Final scoreline of Western Gaels 3-09 St.Faithleachs 2-12. We play Kilmore/Shannon Gaels on thursday evening next. Check fixtures for confirmed details.
U-14 Team:
The Drury Oils Ltd sponsored U 14 team had a good win against St.Faithelachs on Thursday evening last In frenchpark. Final scoreline Western Gaels 9-6 St.Faithleachs 6-4. They are due to play Tulsk on Sunday morning next. Check fixtures for confirmed times etc.
